Architecture in Times of Need

Make It Right, Rebuilding the New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward
Prestel, Munich, 2009
235 x 178 mm, 496 pages

The book focuses on the redevelopment of New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward, an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. An international group of architects (including David Adjaye, Morphosis, MVRDV, Richard Gehry, and Shigeru Ban) were invited by the Make It Right Foundation—founded by Brad Pitt and GRAFT—to develop affordable and environmentally friendly housing for the area that incorporates the latest in innovative and sustainable design.

The book was intended to parallel the architectural design processes in an intensive, two-year dialogue with the editor Kristin Feireiss and GRAFT Architects’ Wolfram Putz.
