Heimann+Schwantes is a design studio based in Berlin. We develop visual concepts and their cross-media realisation in the cultural sector as well as in other socially relevant fields.

Michael Heimann and Hendrik Schwantes founded the studio in 2007 with the aim of combining a content-driven, systematic approach to design with a hands-on, experimental design practice. In the early years, the cultural and economic realities of Berlin's subjectively driven cultural scene provided an ideal testing ground for this approach.

Over time, we have developed a strong interest in addressing broader, society-wide topics as well. Communicating a wide range of themes from politics and society – for specialist audiences as well as the wider public – demands a continuous expansion of our communicative, graphic and media repertoire. These two perspectives, the individual and the universal, shape our work.

Our work spans strategy, editorial and graphic design, data visualisation and visual research – both digital and print. Project development is defined by direct, straightforward exchange with our clients: we structure processes, take briefings seriously and surprise with visual solutions. Depending on the task, we draw on a broad network – including architects, authors, editors, programmers, illustrators and photographers – as well as strong connections to publishers in the field of visual culture.
